Attention Utah PGR Members and friends!
The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand a flag line for JROTC Cadet William Hyland. As an ROTC member but not yet a military service member, our Patriot Guard Riders charter does not allow us to officially honor him as we would our veterans. That said, we feel it important to honor him and his service/planned service to our country in some way.
William Hyland was a 17 year old student at the Utah Military Academy, located in Lehi. He was a high school senior and was scheduled to be sworn in as a U.S. Marine this month. He has received his academy graduation diploma posthumously. William was a Cadet Major at the academy and has been a part of the Air Force JROTC since he started attending the academy. He unfortunately succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash in December.
He was an avid motorcyclist, as is his father. They have requested a motorcycle escort to honor him. While this cannot be an official PGR mission, we are asking that anyone available participate in honoring him. The weather will be cold but dry. Whether a PGR member, or a motorcycle rider who wishes to honor this young man, please consider bundling up and meeting us at the staging to help provide an escort to honor him. Even if you don't ride, you're also welcome to attend.
We will stage at Maverik, located at 2023 Redwood Rd, Saratoga Springs, at 11:15 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026. KSU at 11:45. https://maps.app.goo.gl/gTBmoLjSfshoQMbs9
Following the funeral service, we will escort Mr. Hyland to his final resting place at the Saratoga Springs cemetery.
Please plan to join us. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Reed "Magilla" Newman at 385-441-5664.
Thank you, William Hyland, for your patriotism and your planned service to our country. And thank you to all who will join us in honoring Mr. Hyland.
Regards,
Reed "Magilla" Newman
Asst. State Captain
Patriot Guard Riders of Utah.
